UTLA Dues are based off 1 ½% of a Members Annual Salary split into 12 payments.

Because there is a constitutional pass-through agreement, if at any time the affiliates dues increase, these fees will be passed along to the member.
Each Members Retro Dues amount varies depending on how many hours worked within each pay cycle during the time frame of 7/1/21-8/31/21.

Legacy Retro is a one-time deduction. This deduction is a combination of both Phases and will show on your pay stub as “Leg Ret UTLA Union Due” under Current for the 1/5/22 Pay Date. The deduction will remain on your pay stub with the same amount under YTD (Year to Date) for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The dues rate as of the 1/5/22 Pay Date includes the 5% Raise and the Affiliate Pass through.
The governing bodies of our affiliates approved increases in their dues in late 2017, which means these increases will affect your monthly UTLA membership dues.

Dues are sent to UTLA from your employer based off hours worked within a pay period.

This contribution is not included on Dues Rates listed above. $1.67 is listed under “UTLA Premiums” on pay stub.
In June 2008, CTA State Council approved a $20 voluntary dues contribution to support CTA advocacy efforts and CTA foundation activities which provide scholarships and grants to members and their children as well as supports the Institute for Teaching. The CTA Foundation for Teaching and Learning is the Board approved name of the foundation. The voluntary dues contribution is a component of the CTA dues. The contribution is a component of the CTA dues. Members may elect to redirect or apply for an annual refund by contacting the CTA Membership Department at 650-552-5278.
New Members: have 30 days from enrollment to make a request.
Existing Members: can make a request from August 1-November 1.
Refunds are for the current year.

When you look at your paystub, the “Current” column will show what dues and premiums were remitted from the current pay period. “YTD” (Year to Date) will show the dues and premiums deducted for the current tax year.
Will reflect Full Time, Part Time, Associate, Children’s Center Full Time, Children’s Center Part Time deduction amounts.
Will collectively reflect $1.67 CTA Contribution, PACE, Insurance deductions authorized through UTLA (Colonial Life & Accident Insurance, NTA (National Teachers Association) Life Insurance, Pacific Educators Insurance Services, Specialists in Long Term Care Insurance Services, The Standard Insurance Company, Zahorik Insurance), as well as other CTA elected contributions (FACT, MLK, etc).
When the one-time Retro Dues (Leg Ret UTLA Union Due) is remitted to UTLA it will show in the “Current” column only on the paycheck the deduction was remitted. The amount will remain in the “YTD” column for the remainder of the tax year. If the amount increases and still shows in “Current”, contact the UTLA Membership Department.

Union dues are no longer tax deductible. For tax years 2018 through 2025, union dues are no longer deductible on your federal income tax return, even if itemized deductions are taken. This is a result of the tax reform bill signed into law on December 22, 2017. Consult your tax advisor to confirm.
The following remitted Union Dues might be an eligible claim on your California State income tax return. These figures are meant as a guideline and may not reflect the actual deductions that were taken (for example, if you did not work the full year or you switched job classifications, these numbers may not reflect your deductions). Always consult your tax adviser before taking any of these deductions. The below calculations represent Pay Stubs from January-December (Ex. LAUSD 1/5 Pay Date – 12/5 Pay Date)
As of July 2018, Membership Dues Authorizations are an agreement to pay monthly dues. This agreement will remain in effect unless employment ends or a member provides written notice by U.S. mail to UTLA during the open period not less than thirty (30) days and not more than sixty (60) days before the annual anniversary date of the agreement (i.e., of your signature date on your membership application). Your agreement to maintain dues payments will automatically renew from year to year unless you revoke it in writing during your open period.
If you have one or more of the following supplemental Insurances through UTLA (Colonial Life, Long Term Care, NTA, Pacific Educators, Standard, Zahorik) be aware your insurance(s) will be canceled along with your dues commitment.Your cancelation letter must also state you are forfeiting your insurance coverage. Some supplemental insurances are at a special group rate that require UTLA membership. You will no longer be eligible to participate in any supplemental insurances offered though UTLA Payroll.
Be aware that you will no longer be eligible to participate in UTLA meetings/votes/surveys/GLS legal services nor will you receive any UTLA communications.
If you wish to revoke your membership, upon review UTLA will honor any request to terminate union membership with written notice via U.S.

Change in Position?Your employer will formally inform UTLA when you are no longer in the bargaining unit (due to retirement, promotion, or separation) and your Membership/Premiums will automatically cease.
